TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – According to local polls, actor-turned-mayor Richard Gomez remained the top option for a congressional seat in Leyte’s 4th district.
According to an April poll, 79.5 percent of voters in the northwestern section of Leyte province chose Gomez, who has been the mayor of Ormoc since 2016.
The percentage is higher than the previous high of 74.8 percent in February.
Gregorio Larrazabal, a former commissioner of the Commission on Elections, was chosen by 17.1 percent of voters last month, up from 15.9 percent two months prior.
The sample size for various firms’ surveys was 5,000 people, with a margin of error of 3% plus or minus.
“Despite multiple allegations made against me, voters were unconvinced. With peace and order at the heart of our governance, we were able to transform Ormoc City, once regarded as the drug capital of Eastern Visayas, into the country’s safest city in 2017, 2018, and 2020 “On Tuesday, Gomez issued a statement.
“Ormoc likewise saw a boom under my administration, becoming the richest and most progressive city in Eastern Visayas,” he added.
All six incumbent town mayors in Leyte’s 4th district support Gomez’s congressional bid.
Larrazabal, on the other hand, has formed an alliance with the Codillas, the Ormoc City dynasty that governed for decades until 2016.
Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez, Richard’s wife, is running for mayor of Ormoc City to succeed him.
