President Joe Biden denied allegations that the United States is ready to transfer powerful long-range missile weapons to Ukraine on Monday.

Biden told reporters at the White House, “We are not going to give to Ukraine missile systems that can strike into Russia.”

His denial came just days after various reports claimed that US officials were planning to deliver new armament to Ukraine, notably Multiple Launch Rocket Systems, or MLRS.

According to CNN, the American MLRS can fire rockets hundreds of kilometers (miles) afar, well exceeding Ukraine’s current capability. Ukrainians believe it would be a game-changer in their fight against Russia.

Ukraine is also said to have requested the HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System).

Since the war began on February 24, the US has increased its aid to Ukraine, but has so far avoided any action that could provoke a clash with Russia.

Providing Ukraine with long-range rockets, according to some Biden administration officials, is a source of concern because Ukraine could fire them into Russian territory, resulting in a dramatic escalation between the two big powers.

The battle in eastern Ukraine is currently being pressed by Moscow.

According to UN estimates, more than 4,000 civilians have been killed and nearly 5,000 others injured in Ukraine since the conflict began. The genuine price tag is thought to be significantly higher.

According to the UN refugee agency, more than 6.7 million people have fled to neighboring countries, while more than 7.7 million have been internally displaced. (
