Erwin Tulfo, secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), paid a visit to areas in the Quezon and Aurora provinces that were initially affected by Super Typhoon Karding on Monday.

To assess the extent of damage to the island municipalities where the powerful typhoon first made landfall, Tulfo traveled to Jomalig and Patnangunan towns in Quezon with Undersecretaries for Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Marco Bautista and Undersecretary for Operations Group Jerico Francis Javier.

According to the local government’s estimate, the typhoon in Jomalig impacted about 400 families.

More than 300 families from the town of Patnanungan left for Patnanungan. At least 70 homes were completely demolished, and another 72 were just partially damaged.

Tulfo oversaw the distribution of cash aid totaling PHP10,000 to each household in the two island municipalities and PHP5,000 to each household with partially destroyed homes.

After that, he went to Dingalan in Aurora, another location where “Karding” touched down.

Tulfo oversaw the provision of PHP5,000 in monetary aid to 475 families. Additionally, 2,000 family meal packets and 618 bottles of water were given to Dingalan by DSWD-Field Office III as supplemental help.

Despite the pleasant weather, the Department keeps reminding the affected residents to adhere to the guidance of their local chief executives to secure their safety before going home again.

The DSWD also assured the public that it would continue working with local government units (LGUs) to guarantee the delivery of high-quality social protection services to all impacted residents.
