Telecommunications companies repair damage caused by Karding.

Most communities impacted by Sunday’s super typhoon have communications and internet services again, thanks to the ongoing restoration operations of telecoms firms (telcos).

Globe Telecom Inc. claimed, “100% restoration of services” in all parts of Luzon where “Karding” was most destructive in a service bulletin on Friday.

“We are pleased to announce that all of our services are now entirely available in Nueva Ecija, concluding our whole typhoon-related restoration work. While we were able to restore our services in other typhoon-affected areas on Tuesday, this took the longest due to difficulties on the ground, according to Globe Corporate Communications Officer Yoly Crisanto.

She specifically mentioned Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Rizal, and Quezon, including the Polillo Group of Islands and Metro Manila, as having fully restored mobile services.

“We know how crucial connectivity is to disaster response and recovery. Despite logistical difficulties, Globe quickly restored service in typhoon-affected areas because of planning and preparation, she said.

In contrast, PLDT and Smart, its wireless division, have fully restored services in several provinces, including Pampanga, Aurora, Bulacan, and Pangasinan.

In Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Quezon, and Tarlac, PLDT-Smart continues to offer free calls, free charging, and free WiFi locations to help keep mobile users connected in areas still dealing with the effects of the typhoon.

Additionally, it has provided aid in the form of food packs, drinking water, and other necessities to Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal through the One Meralco Foundation, Maynilad, and Metro Pacific Tollways. It has also distributed relief supplies through the Alagang Kapatid Foundation Inc. to coastal communities in the Polillo Islands.

Before departing the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday, Karding made landfall in the provinces of Quezon and Aurora on Sunday and severely affected neighboring provinces, particularly Nueva Ecija.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council announced Friday that 245,063 families, or 911,404 persons, were affected across seven areas.

They hail from 1,759 communities across the Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, and Ilocos Region.
