Upgraded Ormoc Airport will Promote Growth in Eastern Visayas: PBBM.
On Thursday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos expressed optimism that the expansion of Ormoc Airport would advance the city and the Eastern Visayas area.
This came after Marcos graced the city’s 75th Charter Day anniversary celebration at the Ormoc City Superdome in Leyte and inspected the renovated Ormoc Airport.
According to a news release from Malacanang, “President Ferdinand R. Marcos on Thursday stated opening the Ormoc Airport to commercial flights will bring more development in the city and the Eastern Visayas region.”
Richard Gomez, a representative for Leyte’s 4th District, sought the Department of Transportation in September for assistance in encouraging airline firms to fly between Manila and Ormoc.
The passenger terminal building at the airport has increased in size from 150 to 1,350 square meters.
Between 2018 and 2020, improvements were made to the airport’s 2,042 m x 36 m runway, including an asphalt overlay, a strip grade correction project, and runway widening.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines administration building was built, and the passenger terminal facility that Super Typhoon Yolanda wrecked in 2013 was renovated.
The landing area, taxiway, and apron are now being built at the Ormoc Airport as part of an improvement.
The project, which will cost 329 million PHP, should be finished in March 2023.
The Ormoc airport will eventually be able to accommodate larger commercial aircraft.
The Office of the President stated in a separate Facebook post that “the administration’s program to strengthen the Philippine tourism sector” includes the rehabilitation and renovation of Ormoc Airport and other airports throughout the nation, which the Departments of Transportation and Tourism oversee.
