Early next week, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) plans to begin printing official ballots for the May 2022 elections.

“By the 15th of January, we expect to have finalized our final ballot faces.” The final ballot face indicates the final candidate list. In a virtual press briefing on Wednesday, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said, “We aim to be able to start printing by January 17.”

According to Jimenez, the poll body is currently preparing for a walkthrough on Saturday at the National Printing Office (NPO) in Quezon City.

“Right present, we’re prepping for an NPO walkthrough on January 15th.” This afternoon, we’re putting the finishing touches on the preparations for that. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to do the walkthrough in person,” Jimenez added.

He stated that the ballot faces would be made available on their website.

“We will let you know as soon as we finalize the walkthrough plans,” the Comelec official said when asked if the first ballots to be printed are for overseas voters. “Yeah, we are looking at January 17 as the start and then normally we do start with overseas ballots mainly because they are the first out.” They’ll be put to service as early as April. Let me simply double-check if their ballots are the first ones to be printed.”

Filipino voters living abroad will be the first to vote in next year’s elections, a month ahead of those in the Philippines. They will be able to vote exclusively for candidates running for national office.
