The meteorological agency stated Thursday that further regions have been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 as Typhoon Odette intensified while heading near the Dinagat Islands and Siargao-Bucas Grande Islands.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) claimed “Odette” was last monitored 330 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, in its 8 a.m. weather bulletin. It presently has maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour (kph) around the center, with gusts up to 205 kilometers per hour.

TCWS No. 3 is flown over Southern Leyte (Abuyog, Mahaplag, City of Baybay, Inopacan, Hindang, Hilongos, Bato, Matalom, Javier), Bohol, and the central and southern parts of Cebu (Lapu-Lapu City, Cordova, Carmen, Danao City, Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, Mandaue City, Cebu City, City of Talisay

Signal No. 3 is also in effect in Mindanao, the Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, the northern part of Agusan del Norte (Tubay, Santiago, Jabonga, Kitcharao), and the northern part of Surigao del Sur (Carrascal, Cantilan, Madrid, Carmen, Lanuza, Cortes, City of Tandag).

Sorsogon, Masbate including the Burias and Ticao Islands, Cuyo Islands, Cagayancillo Islands, the southern portion of Oriental Mindoro (Bongabong, Roxas, Mansalay, Bulalacao), Romblon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, the rest of Leyte, the rest of Cebu including the Bantayan Islands, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental

Meanwhile, TCWS No. 1 has been flown over Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Burias Island, Marinduque, and the southern part of Quezon (San Antonio, Tiaong, Candelaria, Sariaya, Dolores, Lucena City, Pagbilao, Padre Burgos, Atimonan, Agdangan, Unisan, Gumac

In Mindanao, the TCWS No. 1 is also flown over the northern parts of Davao Oriental (Baganga, Cateel, Boston), Davao de Oro (Laak, Mawab, Nabunturan, Montevista, Monkayo, New Bataan, Compostela), Davao del Norte (Talaingod, Santo Tomas, Kapalong, Asuncion, San Isidro (Titay, Ipil, Naga, Kabasalan, Siay, Diplahan, Buug)

Strong winds are expected in areas affected by TCWS No. 1. Furthermore, moderate to extremely high seas will prevail along the coasts of the areas affected by TCWS 1, 2, and 3. Mariners should stay in port until the winds and seas have died down.

“Odette” is likely to develop further until it makes landfall on Thursday afternoon, according to PAGASA. Prior to landfall, the typhoon may reach a peak intensity of 175 to 195 km/h.

A gale warning is still in effect for several coastal waters not under any wind signal, including the seaboards of northern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon and Mindanao, and the eastern seaboard of Mindanao not under any wind signal, due to “Odette” and the northeast monsoon.

Caraga, Central Visayas, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Southern Leyte, and Negros Occidental will see heavy to torrential rains, while Leyte, the southern portions of Eastern Samar and Samar, Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and the rest of Northern Mindanao will see moderate to heavy with at times intense rains.

Light to moderate rainfall will fall in the Bicol Region, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Quezon, and the rest of Visayas, as well as the Zamboanga Peninsula and mainland Bangsamoro.
