Duterte has become a “better leader” as a result of his presidency, according to Andanar.

MANILA – The presidency has aided President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in becoming a “better leader,” according to Malacanang.

Despite the country’s pressing problems, Duterte has been able to keep his pledges to bring real change and provide a pleasant living for Filipinos, according to acting Presidential Spokesperson and Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, who spoke with Tribune’s Straight Talk on Tuesday.

“Ang nagbago sa kaniya siguro ay ‘yung experience lamang (What has changed is only his experience),” Andanar remarked, adding that it has only made him a better leader.

Andanar made the statement in response to a question on Duterte’s changes.

Nothing has changed, according to him, because Duterte remains “extremely humble, fatherly [and] deliberate.”

“He’s still the same guy – very humble, fatherly, and methodical.” And ano siya eh, iyong parati niyang sinasabi sa mga kababayan natin na assertive (And he is forceful, he always tells our countrymen) in what he wants to happen in his government,” he explained.

Andanar was also pleased that under Duterte’s leadership, the Philippines has been able to overcome all of the obstacles it has faced, including the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

“He was able to weather the media storm.” He was able to get through the political upheaval. “He was able to escape the pandemic,” he explained.

If the Philippines had allowed a president to run for another six-year term, Duterte would have won reelection, Andanar claimed, praising the Chief Executive’s ability to govern the country.

“Siguro kung mayroon lang sigurong reelection sa Pilipinas, kung mayroong reelection tulad sa Amerika (Perhaps, if there is only a reelection in the Philippines, just as in the United States),” Andanar added.

Duterte is scheduled to leave office on June 30 of this year.

Duterte had planned to retire from politics, but in November 2021, he surprised everyone by running for Senate as a substitute candidate under the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan Part.

In December of last year, he dropped his Senate bid to complete his plan to resign from office and spend more time with his family when his term finishes.
