PH joins the French global relay for the 2024 Olympics in Terre de Jeux.

MANILA, Philippines โ€” The Philippines took part in the Terre de Jeux (land of the games), a 24-hour global relay organized by the French government to promote awareness about the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The campaign began in Fort Santiago in Intramuros and was joined by roughly a hundred runners and cyclists, including uniformed personnel, diplomats, and municipal authorities. It also coincided with the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace.

The Terre de Jeux is a one-hour race held in the participating countries from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on a specified route (local time). When the race is finished, they will individually transfer the baton to the embassies in the following time zone, who will continue the race.

The relay, which began in Fiji, attracted 45 countries in all. Japan formally surrendered the baton to Manila at 9 a.m. (Philippine standard time), which was then symbolically handed on to Cambodia.

“All of the principles of sportsmanship, being together, partnership, solidarity, and all of the virtues of sports must be brought together. We’re pleased that we were able to place Manila on the map “Michรจle Boccoz, the French Ambassador to the Philippines, stated.

“We believe the Philippines is a sports nation with a large number of people participating in sports, which we want to support. You have a terrific gold medallist in Hidilyn Diaz, and we hope to see a lot of Filipinos in Paris 2024, and hopefully a lot of Philippine medals “In an interview with media, she stated.

France has been preparing “quite carefully” for the Olympics in Paris, according to Boccoz, taking into account the health situation as well as any potential emergencies that may develop during the tournament.

“One of the most important factors is this. The situation in France is currently extremely excellent, as you are aware, because we have a very high vaccination rate, as is the case in many countries “she stated

“We have a lot of experience with Covid, and we’ve gained a lot of it. We’re fortunate in that we have so many vaccines to protect people, so we’re optimistic that by 2024 we’ll be back to normal, but we’ll be ready for any health issues that arise “she continued.

President Abraham Tolentino of the Philippine Olympic Committee, Philippine chef de mission to the 2024 Olympics Alfredo Panlilio, Intramuros Administration Director Guiller Asido, and members of the diplomatic corps were among those who joined Boccoz at the occasion.

The 2024 Summer Olympics, often known as Paris 2024, will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
