An official of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said on Tuesday that the online appointment system for obtaining copies of civil registry documents has been accommodating an average of 800 clients per day, alleviating long lines and overcrowding at the Civil Registration Services (CRS) outlet here.

PSA Eastern Visayas Regional Director Wilma Perante said that in the last three weeks, they have been carefully enforcing the system, encouraging more document seekers to go through the online procedure.

“Only clients who have a valid appointment slip from the system will be admitted to the PSA.” Appointment confirmation will be received through email, along with a quick response (QR) code that must be presented at the CRS shop on the scheduled date and time. In a phone interview, Perante stated that the appointment slip is non-transferable.

The appointment can be made online at https://appointment.psa.gov.ph. According to the official, walk-in candidates are no longer accepted.

Before the new method, over a thousand people came to the CRS shop here every day to receive certified copies of civil registration documents like birth, marriage, and death certificates, as well as no-marriage certificates.

Clients from the region’s six provinces — Leyte, Southern Leyte, Biliran, Samar, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar — have been served by the CRS in this city.

“Overcrowding, particularly during pandemics, spurred our office to consider strategies to ensure compliance with basic public health requirements and make queuing more methodical,” Perante continued.

Aside from individuals who booked online, the PSA also produces batches of copies of civil registry records for residents living outside of the city, as requested by local government entities.

Front-line workers, senior citizens, and people with disabilities who come in person to obtain copies of papers for their own use are exempt from the online appointment.
