To protect festivalgoers’ safety and security, the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival, which started on Saturday, forbade using drones over particular areas, carrying backpacks, and wearing baseball caps.

The feast day of the city’s most venerated saint, Our Lady of the Pillar, on October 12, highlights the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival.

A drone cannot be used to fly above Santuario de la Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar from October 3 to October 13 unless it is operated by the police, military, or Office of the City Administrator, according to Mayor John Dalipe’s Executive Order (EO) JD 2022-058.

The EO forbids wearing hooded or non-hooded jackets, waistcoats (vests), baseball caps, fedora hats, and backpacks, except for children 12 years of age and younger who are subject to security checks.

All visitors to the shrine must also comply with the “no face mask, no admission” rule, and security inspections of their personal belongings and alcohol or hand sanitizer are prohibited.

Parking is available at Paseo del Mar for a fee and on the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology campus.

At the Paseo del Mar complex on Saturday, Dalipe led the opening salvo of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival.

The festival’s theme for this year is “Celebracion de Colores (Celebration of Colors)” to reflect Zamboanga’s colorful past, illustrious heritage, and different cultures.

The event is the first in-person gathering since the coronavirus epidemic of 2019 began in 2020.
