To support MSMEs, Solon wants November to be proclaimed “Buy Pinoy Month.”

Deputy Speaker and Las Pinas Representative Camille Villar filed a resolution to declare November as Buy Pinoy, Build Pinoy Month in an effort to inspire the people to support Filipino business owners and aid in their recovery during the pandemic.

In introducing House Bill 5682, Villar observed that increased import and export via the Internet and other technologies have made it more challenging to identify goods created locally, which has resulted in lower consumer spending among our own people.

“More than ever, we need to strengthen support for local businesses as we move toward economic recovery and revival. Local firms will benefit greatly from help and assistance in the form of marketing, information, and capacity-building activities that can act as sales and promotional drivers, she said in a statement.

According to Villar, “this measure recognizes the significant role and contributions of domestic businesses to the economy, particularly micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs), who employ more than 90% of the labor force and took the brunt of the pandemic.

In accordance with HB 5682, November of each year shall be designated as Buy Pinoy, Build Pinoy Month to increase the chances for MSMEs to expand and make more significant contributions to job creation, national growth, and economic advancement.

The Department of Trade and Industry will serve as the lead organization for the execution of Buy Pinoy Month activities, which will include a variety of trade shows, bazaars, marketing excursions, activities for the dissemination of information, and other comparable occasions showcasing Filipino goods, innovations, and ingenuity.

One of these is a National Trade Fair, which will only allow Filipino producers, service providers, and goods, and which will be hosted concurrently in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao for at least two weeks in November.

The Philippine Information Agency will run a national information and advocacy campaign in conjunction with the Buy Pinoy, Build Pinoy Month events.

Buy Pinoy Month, according to Villar, will have significant advantages for domestic businesses not just in November since it gives local companies and consumers a platform to voice their interests and maximize their current worth.

The declaration of November as “Buy Pinoy, Build Pinoy Month” annually offers a significant marketing platform for a national audience, educates consumers about the benefits of the celebration, and empowers entrepreneurs to further develop their businesses, according to the official.

Additionally, honoring it in November allows for a strategic timing that will provide consumers the option to support local brands throughout the holiday season while still maintaining a balance of choices in the free market, according to Villar.
