The National Housing Authority (NHA) charter, which is due to expire in 2025, should be renewed, according to senator JV Ejercito.

The National Home Authority (NHA) was acknowledged as the sole agency in charge of housing production during a hearing on Monday by the Committee on Urban Planning, Housing, and Resettlement, which Ejercito chairs.

“We cannot strip the NHA of its authority. If the NHA is abolished, we would not be able to achieve our goal of constructing one million homes annually and six million by the end of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr “In his introduction, Ejercito stated.

General Manager Joeben Tai stated that the charter renewal is essential for the agency’s programs and services, particularly for the poor and informal settler families, at NHA’s 47th founding anniversary celebration in October.

As Tai noted, both the Senate and the House leadership have pledged support to extend NHA’s corporate term. “With the charter renewal, we can further expand our initiatives as well as continue to provide quality housing projects to the Filipino people for the next 50 years,” she added.

By virtue of Presidential Decree No. 757, which President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. issued on July 31, 1975, the NHA was created in 1975 as a government-owned and controlled organization.

The People’s Homesite and Housing Corporation and six other government housing agencies were replaced and their operations merged.
