Be reading role models, DepEd advises educators and parents.
During the National Reading Day celebration on Monday, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte underlined the value of reading as a way to further the nation’s learning recovery program.
Duterte read stories to the young students in a video that was captured and published on Facebook Livestream, including “Ang Kamatis ni Peles” and “Ang Bungtod ug Ako” (The Hill and Me).
In a statement, the department urged members of the public, in particular teachers, parents, and education partners, to be reading role models who will inspire the next generation.
DepED stated, “We encourage our teachers, parents, and education partners to continue setting positive examples as reading advocates for our students. We understand the essential significance of reading and literacy in our pursuit of providing quality education.
According to the statement, the education chief is committed to encouraging students to read, which could help the nation increase its literacy rate and close the learning gap. It also stressed that reading is crucial for helping students develop their cognitive skills, especially in their early years.
Under the direction of the Vice President and Secretary of Education, Sara Z. Duterte, the nation’s reforms and initiatives to raise literacy rates and close the achievement gap remain steadfastly anchored. DepEd is dedicated to making Bawat Bata Bumabasa a reality in order to give Filipino youth greater possibilities, it was said.
Every November 27, as mandated by Republic Act 10556, is National Reading Day.
