100K hospitality professionals to be trained in PH by 2023: Frasco
Next year, the Department of Tourism (DOT) plans to teach an additional 100,000 Filipinos employed in the hotel industry.
In order to showcase the workforce’s ability to serve as ambassadors of Filipino hospitality, Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco made the announcement during the Global Leaders Dialogue of the 22nd World Travel & Tourism Council Global Summit in Saudi Arabia.
She said in a speech from November 28 that was forwarded by the DOT on Thursday, “Wherever you may find yourself in the world, whether it’s a hotel, a restaurant, a hospital, a home, or in many other industries, you will find a Filipino, with a warm smile and the distinct hospitality of the Filipino, who is ready and willing to the extra mile to make our guests feel happy, at home, and well-served.”
According to Frasco, one of the main supports of the Philippine tourism business is the Filipino reputation for excellent service.
She claimed that the program would emphasize the best traits and admirable principles of Filipino hospitality.
“(We will) continue to build on all of that in the sense of community, in the sense of the Bayanihan spirit, and train our people to be purveyors of happiness and, more importantly, purveyors of hope,” she said.
“The concept is that as we spread the Filipino brand of service excellence to our 100,000 frontline Filipino workers, they can serve as the 100 million Filipinos who live in the country as beacons of hospitality, prepared and eager to welcome visitors from all over the world,” she continued.
Under the Marcos era, the DOT worked to improve the quality of service provided by the Filipino people as well as the capabilities of microbusiness owners, such as food vendors in popular tourist areas.
The DOT facilitated the formation of a technical working group to begin discussions on the adoption of standards to ensure high-quality tourism services just a few weeks after Frasco entered his job this year.
