DSWD investigates collaboration with Facebook-Meta
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Facebook-Meta collaborated in an online consultation discussion in November to consider potential advocacy partnerships on public solicitation in order to present the public with pertinent information.
The popular social media network Facebook-Meta is a powerful medium for spreading knowledge and giving accurate information regarding the DSWD’s issuing of solicitation permits.
Recall that the topic of public solicitation has frequently been misunderstood and misinterpreted, particularly in times of disaster.
According to Presidential Decree No. 1564 or the Solicitation Permit Law, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Standards Bureau, has the power to grant or deny requests for solicitation permits to any individual, corporation, organization, or association wishing to engage in charitable giving or solicit donations for public welfare purposes.
The law was written to ensure that requested resources reached their intended beneficiaries.
The DSWD presented a situation on public solicitations made without a permit during the conference, focusing on those made via social media apps.
Facebook-Meta said they could offer free training sessions on using social media as effectively as possible for the Department’s awareness-raising campaign.
The Department wants to keep up its improved communication efforts in order to combat false information and fake news by looking for expert partnership opportunities and soliciting input from the public.
