Bulacan’s Baliwag is now a city.

Today, Baliwag is a city in the province of Bulacan.

In a statement released on Saturday night, Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said that during the plebiscite held on Saturday, 17,814 out of 23,562 registered voters responded in favor of converting Baliwag town into a component city of Bulacan.

5,702 people, or 24.19 percent, cast “No” ballots overall.

Only 21,70% of Baliwag’s 108,572 registered voters, or voters, cast ballots in the referendum.

The plebiscite was scheduled for July 2021, following the passage of Republic Act 11929.

“With the success of this Plebiscite and the adoption of Republic Act No., 11929, the dream of Baliwageos to reinforce the acknowledgment of their progress and rising economy in the change of their beloved Municipality that is now the City of Baliwag has now become a reality,” Laudiangco stated.

“Baliwag enters the ranks of 109 Component Cities (including 33 Highly-Urbanized Cities and 5 Independent Component Cities) as the 147th city in the Philippines,” he stated.

Laudiangco gave credit to other government organizations for the plebiscite’s accomplishment.
