Not many Covid-19 patients were hospitalized over the holidays: DOH

Over the holiday season, hospitals across the country only admitted a small number of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), a health official reported on Tuesday.

Hospitals are not overrun by coronavirus patients, according to Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Eric Tayag in a radio interview.

He omitted, however, to mention the number of patients receiving care in facilities.

“We’re happy, although there are patients in hospitals, there were not many, and the services of hospitals for other diseases are not sacrificed,” Tayag said. “Kami’y masaya, bagama’t may mga pasyente po na sa mga ospital, ay hindi naman ganun kadami at masasakripisyo ang serbisyo ng ospital para sa

The DOH reported three additional severe and critical cases on Monday, bringing the total to 433.

The number represents 10.7% of all Covid-19 admissions made to hospitals between December 26, 2022, and January 1, 2023.

The weekly average of 813 new Covid-19 cases per day decreased to 494 per day this week.

With fewer occurrences, Tayag recommended the public get tested for Covid-19.

He declared, “We’re assuming that there are still unreported cases. Inaasahan natin may mayroon pa ring kasi [hindi] naire-report.”

To our fellow citizens, Tayag advised, “If you have any symptoms and suspect you may have Covid, please get tested so we can determine the exact number of Covid cases in the nation.”

There are currently no vaccine-related activities in Paranaque.

The Paranaque City Public Information Office said on Tuesday that Covid-19 immunization campaigns will be temporarily put on hold until further notice.

The local administration recommended the public follow statements on the Ospital ng Paranaque’s social media page in connection with announcements regarding Covid-19 immunization schedules in a social media post.

The immunization center at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay was declared closed until further notice.

The city added one new case on Monday, bringing the total number of open cases to 17. There were three recoveries and no fresh fatalities.

Of the 56,891 Covid-19 cases in the city, almost all have recovered.
