At DA, Marcos requires a “bastonero”: solon
On Sunday, Senator Gatchalian stated that there is no need to designate a new secretary for the Department of Agriculture, which is concurrently led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
According to Gatchalian, the administration’s effort to assure the nation’s food security has been symbolized by the president serving as the DA’s secretary. Gatchalian made this statement during an interview with the radio station DZBB.
It is symbolic that the highest ranking official in the nation is directing the DA, according to Gatchalian, who added, “This is symbolic, ang pinakamataas na lider ng bansa ang nagbibigay direksyon sa DA.”
However, he continued, it’s crucial that the president have a deputy secretary in the department who would serve as his “bastonero,” or second in command, and who understands how the president thinks.
“It’s crucial to have a second in command if the governing body wants to use the DA as a bastonero. It’s crucial that there is a second in command as if our president has given the DA “bastonero” to move, and that person knows what is going on with the gagawin and knows what the next move of the pangulo is. It is crucial that this second-in-command is fully aware of the president’s intentions and knows what needs to be done “said he.
But I do believe that the president should be sent there: “Pero ako sang-ayon ako kasi ang pangulo ang dapat na nakatalaga diyan.” “said he.
If someone already exists who matches the bill, Gatchalian responded that DA officials effectively support the president.
In the meantime, Gatchalian stated that he is in favor of setting up a task force to pursue dealers who are involved in the smuggling and stockpiling of agricultural products, such as onions and other commodities.
DA and the National Bureau of Investigation, he claimed, could serve as the task force’s leading agencies.
“Sang-ayon ako na gawan natin ng task force ito, for instance gumawa ng isang task force ang DA ang magli-lead dahil sila ang may datos,” the speaker said. And now the NBI can be summoned to stop the economic sabotage of the hoarded goods because that is their intended goal; therefore, economic sabotage is being committed against them. (I concur that we should form a task force; for instance, the DA might head the task force as they have the data. And the NBI should enter so they can file charges against the hoarders. They are sabotaging the economy, in my opinion, so they are doing it,” he stated.
