Parks in Baguio have been asked by telcos to serve as SIM registration centers.

The city council has requested that telecommunications providers (telcos) set up help desks in parks and other public areas for the SIM card registration process.

Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda, who wrote the resolution approving the action, said in a message on Friday that helping individuals register their SIM cards is one approach to help the public comply with the law.

The council asked telcos to set up help desks at the People’s Park and other locations through the resolution.

This occurred when subscribers complained that the SIM registration process was challenging.

“Subscribers who lack the technical expertise or whose internet connection is inconsistent or weak found the SIM card online registration to be a struggle, therefore the requirement for the provision of support by the telcos,” the official said.

Republic Act 11934, also known as the SIM Registration Law of 2022, was approved by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in October of last year and requires all users to register their SIM cards with their telephone provider by the end of April in order to prevent their deactivation.

Subscribers had 180 days, or until April of this year, to register their SIM cards after the law went into force on December 27 of last year.

The registration will make it possible to identify the owner of a certain mobile number that is in use.
