Amount of aid provided to 4Ps beneficiaries to date: P9.28B DSWD
Officer-in-Charge of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Eduardo Punay, declared on Saturday that the organization has already provided beneficiaries of the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), which aims to reduce poverty, with financial assistance totaling more than P9 billion.
Punay stated during a press conference that the 4Ps program is largely focused on assisting families with student children under the age of 17.
“Our goal is to serve 4.4 million families yearly, but in the past year, 2022, we were only able to serve 4,323,450 houses,” the speaker said. In total, we have provided them with PHP9.28 billion in financial aid through our 4Ps, according to Punay.
Punay stated that their goal was to remove old names from the 4Ps beneficiaries list who have seen improvements in their life since the pandemic began and replace them with fresh names who have been waiting for housing for a very long time.
“We have a lot of people on our “wait list,” and we need to graduate those (who have been receiving for a long time) so that they can be replaced by other potential beneficiaries,” he said.
Punay said that 106,000 4Ps recipients “graduated” from the program last year after displaying promising signs of human development. The organization’s initial goal was to help 1.3 million people graduate. At least 500,000 beneficiaries should continue to be on the current list, according to the DSWD.
“As of right now, we are performing community validation to update the beneficiaries’ list, Kaya ngayon po ay nag-co-conduct kami ng community validation para nga po maiayos itong listahan ng mga. To do this, we are continuously cooperating with the local government units (LGUs), one of the DSWD’s key partners, Punay said.
Punay promised to graduate 500,000 beneficiaries this year and to bring in 600,000 new ones in their stead. He emphasized how important it would be to determine who should be eligible for the program.
And because there are so many people on standby, that poses a serious issue for us. We’re hoping to finish our list of those who should be replaced this month, the DSWD official stated.
Those who will be taken off the list may take advantage of other departmental programs, such as the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), said Punay.
These previous 4Ps awardees will earn P5,000 to P15,000 each under the SLP program to be used as startup funding.
Punay stated that the organization will instruct and train them to become small business owners so that the advantage they previously received from the 4Ps would not be in vain and that the program’s primary goal of eradicating poverty stays on track.
After providing some numbers regarding the DSWD’s expenditures for the implementation of its various programs outside of the 4Ps and SLP, such as the Supplemental Feeding Program (SFP) and the Social Pension Program for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPPIS), Punay also brought up the DSWD’s ongoing provision of aid to weather disturbance victims all across the nation.
He claimed that in order to execute SLP and provide food and financial aid to those affected by adverse weather, the agency has enlisted the help of LGUs.
Punay claimed that the move to collaborate with LGUs was made in order to make the livelihood program more accessible to the residents of each locality and to prevent the incident that happened on January 13 at the Field Office of the National Capital Region (NCR), where 2,000 people had gathered in anticipation of a potential payout.
The incident at the NCR Field Office, according to the DSWD, was simply brought on by the spread of “false news” via SMS (text messages) and phony Facebook pages.
Punay claimed that they had already requested the National Bureau of Investigation’s (NBI) assistance in looking into the situation.
