According to an economist, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will have the chance to draw in global investors to the Philippines by attending the WEF Annual Meeting in 2023.

Michael Batu, an economist and assistant professor of Economics at the University of the Fraser Valley in British Columbia, stated at the Laging Handa public briefing on Monday that the WEF is an “ideal platform” for the Marcos administration to improve its overseas relations.

According to Batu, Marcos’ attendance at the WEF will give the CEO a chance to promote the nation’s economic interests.

In a mix of English and Filipino, Batu stated, “The President may advertise that our economy is being managed well—there are indicators such as our good economic fundamentals and we have a decent credit rating.

He continued by saying that the WEF is a suitable venue for Marcos to advertise the Philippines as an attractive investment and travel destination and soft-launch his administration’s sovereign wealth fund.

According to Batu, the Philippine corporate delegation to the WEF will have the opportunity to network with international colleagues and explore potential business collaborations.

“Attending gatherings like the World Economic Forum is an opportunity for our own business leaders to interact and network with the world leaders—the prime ministers, presidents, and other businessmen from different nations,” he said. This will help them grow their companies.

Marcos landed in Switzerland on Sunday for the annual WEF meeting in Davos from January 16 to 20.
