The VP promises to concentrate on “upscaling” instructors’ abilities.

Sara Duterte, vice president and secretary of education, promised on Monday that she would put more effort into “upscaling” teachers’ skills and abilities.

Duterte acknowledged the integrity and sacrifices of teachers during the Basic Education Report (BER) 2023, despite the urgent problems plaguing the educational system.

“We appreciate your sacrifices. Thank you very much for your dedication. We appreciate your commitment. Hindi po namin kayo pababayaan. We won’t leave you behind),” she declared in her speech.

She argued that it is past due to offer sufficient assistance to bridge gaps in the Kindergarten through Grade 12 (K–12) curriculum.

“Our teachers are not to blame for this… The system has let them down, which is a terrible fact. This is a system that denies them the chance to grow professionally and to educate, advise, and mentor our students professionally, one that loads them with laborious and time-consuming administrative responsibilities, and one that offers no adequate assistance, Duterte added.

“Kayo’s importance to the pag-unlad of the ating bayan” (You are important to the development of our nation). We will concentrate on enhancing your expertise and talents as public employees in order to equip our learners with the necessary skills and knowledge,” she added.

She listed a number of different action plans, including the strict application of the merit selection policy for employment, training and capacity-building initiatives, accelerated promotion procedures, the removal of non-teaching duties, and increased perks.

“We’ll eliminate non-teaching duties and assign administrative staff to schools. According to Duterte, we would regulate teachers’ workloads, offer a suitable manpower complement in the classrooms, and pay them for particular issues faced by their schools.

According to her, the DepEd has also asked for the Special Hardship Allowances coverage to be expanded as well as help with the problems with teachers’ loans, premium remittances, and other perks.

“We’ll seek to address problems that have an impact on teachers’ take-home compensation,” We are also working together with the GSIS (Government Service Insurance System) to provide all DepEd employees with a better benefits package. According to Duterte, we will never stop fighting for more perks for our teachers.

She claimed that additional support was also being considered for teachers, including free access to legal counsel and yearly physicals.

In order to improve the country’s educational system, educators play a critical role under Duterte.
