Gen. Andres Centino, chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), urged soldiers to cultivate exceptional ideals and hone their skills to elevate the nation’s armed forces to a global level.

Centino stated this when he paid a visit to the Philippine Army’s Armor Division headquarters at Camp O’Donnell, Sta. Lucia, Capas, Tarlac, on Monday. “It is not in the equipment that will make us world-class; it is in the attitude, values, and skills of our soldiers that will make us world-class,” he added.

He stated that he expects all officers and members of the Armor Division to completely support the AFP in all of its missions.

Additionally, he complimented Maj. Gen. Facundo Palafox IV, commander of the Armor Division, for the unit’s exceptional performance across the nation and instructed them to keep up the good work.

Centino examined the updated armored combat vehicles, Simba fighting vehicles, the Sabrah ASCOD 2 and Pandur II tanks, and other recent acquisitions of the Armor Division, which support the maneuvering unit with close- and indirect fire.

These are a part of the AFP Modernization Program, which aims to increase the Army’s capacity to control and employ tanks in combat.

Centino also emphasized the AFP’s progress toward professionalism and meritocracy by advising military officers to lead their troops skillfully and competently.

Additionally, he asked commanders to visit their troops in the field and to be informed of their duties.

Centino remarked, “That is the one time when your troops see you, that you give the inspiration and motivation for them to give their best equally.”

He also praised the AFP’s significant successes in eradicating threat organizations from the nation, particularly the communist insurgency, which had been significantly suppressed.
