On Wednesday, 20 contemporary public utility jeepneys (PUJ) were seized by LTFRB enforcement officers during separate anti-overloading operations in Caloocan City and Quezon City.

The LTFRB said in a statement that four of these contemporary PUJs were stopped for overloading violations and assisted extra passengers in finding alternate forms of public transportation.

Additionally, law enforcement officers detained eight drivers for not donning a uniform, four drivers for having malfunctioning brake lights, two drivers for failing to post a fare matrix, one driver for failing to post a “no smoking” sign, and one driver for not possessing a Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC).

“Apprehended modern PUVs have been handed violation tickets and a PHP5,000 fine each for a first infringement under Memorandum Circular (MC) 2011-004 of JAO 2014-01,” it said.

Teofilo Guadiz III, Chair of the LTFRB, stated that these operations maintain the safety of both drivers and passengers in public transportation.
