Ejercito will advocate for rental housing in urban cities.
On Tuesday, Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito announced that he will introduce a bill to encourage the construction of houses for employees and informal settlers residing in metropolitan areas across the country.
Ejercito said Metro Manila and Cebu will be the pilot project sites for his planned law during a joint meeting of the Senate Committees on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement, Social Justice, Welfare and Rural Development, and Finance.
According to Ejercito, the initiative will help with housing issues, provide shelter for those displaced by natural and man-made calamities, and support the government’s housing program.
“I will propose a measure, Rental housing bill for employees in Metro Manila and other metropolitan centers,” Ejercito said, adding Valenzuela City already has a similar program. “They will return to the province, upon retirement, so others will now rent with the vacant unit,” he continued.
He also urged the business sector, particularly those working in the housing and construction industries, to assist the government in exchange for tax breaks.
According to the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program, the Marcos government hopes to construct 6.15 million housing units, or one million units annually, for 30 million people.
