“We are really happy of the high caliber of these eight official entries that we have chosen. We are anticipating that the first-ever Summer MMFF would also receive the same warm support from moviegoers as the December 2022 MMFF,” Artes stated.
The MMFF Selection Committee is hopeful that the roster will persuade the general public—particularly millennials and Generation Z—to support the film festival notwithstanding Holy Week.
Boots Anson-Rodrigo, chair of the MMFF Selection Committee, said, “We believe that we have a very strong variety of submissions, and it represents the reality that as many as there are various interests among moviegoers.”
The first Summer MMFF will take place from April 8 to April 18 throughout all theaters in the country in collaboration with the Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines.
The Parade of Stars, which will be hosted in Quezon City on April 2, and the Awards Night, which will be held at the New Frontier Theater on April 11, are both scheduled events.
The main goal of the MMFF, which is run by the MMDA, is to advance and encourage the preservation of Philippine cinema.
The Movie Workers Welfare Fund Inc., the Motion Picture and Anti-Film Piracy Council, the Film Development Council of the Philippines, and the Optical Media Board are just a few of the film industry organizations that will get funds from the filmfest.
