According to Senator Cynthia Villar, empowering women, eradicating gender prejudices, and fostering equality among communities will considerably boost the nation’s economic growth.

Villar stressed the need of empowering and equipping women to contribute to strengthening the nation’s food security and productivity in her motivational speech at the 2023 National Women’s Month Celebration on Monday at the Department of Agriculture (DA) headquarters in Quezon City.

During the celebration with the theme “We for gender equality and inclusive society” and sub-theme: “Expanded Opportunities for Women Participation, Leadership and Benefits in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), ICT, Infrastructure and Energy,” she said that if half of the population of the Philippines is female and contributes to the improvement of the nation.

Also, the senator invited leaders of government agencies to encourage their staff to engage in and take part in events that advance equal opportunity for women on March 8 in honor of Women’s Day. The month of March is also recognized as Women’s Month.

When given the right chances and training, women can make a significant contribution to the advancement of our country, said Villar, emphasizing how her grandmother taught her how to earn, save, and manage her money well.

For the month-long celebration, the DA and its regional offices planned a number of different events.

In honor of National Women’s Day, Republic Act No. 6949 designates the eighth day of March of each year as a special working holiday.

The day is also regarded as the day on which women are honored for their accomplishments regardless of national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, philosophical, or political boundaries.
