More Ilocos Norte farmers will get fuel subsidies.
Last week, the government began providing gasoline subsidies to over 1,000 farmers from several communities in the province of Ilocos Norte.
An initial 320 farmers from the towns of Dingras and Marcos received gasoline subsidy certificates worth PHP1,000 each on Thursday. They can utilize these coupons at the partner gas stations JLR Gas Station and Ashley’s Gas Station in their respective districts.
Gervy Using money from the maintenance and other operating expenses of the Office of the Governor, James Gumarit, head of the communications and media office, said a total of PHP 998,000 has been allocated for the fuel subsidy program for 998 farmer-recipients in at least six municipalities of Ilocos Norte.
He continued, “Tomorrow, March 17, at the Flying V and El Arquillo Gas Stations, the next wave of farmers from Bacarra with 198 recipients and Pasuquin with 160 recipients will receive their gas subsidy vouchers.
The period of distribution ends on March 21, 2023.
The governor earlier promised to help farmers through a targeted gasoline subsidy program in collaboration with approved gas stations in the province in response to the growing cost of fuel.
The recipients of this batch are individuals whose names are listed in the Registration System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture and who have not received any government fuel subsidies.
Aside from farmers, the Ilocos Norte government claimed it still provides gas subsidies to all of its jeepney and tricycle drivers who work for its public utilities and are impacted by the growing cost of fuel.
To assist them in adjusting to the increase in fuel prices, the local government of Batac City on March 14 gave PHP1,500 to a total of 3,222 tricycle drivers.
Farmers in the province who were severely impacted by the significant increase in oil prices last year also received fuel subsidies from the government to support their crops this summer.
