Mayon Volcano alert level is down to 1.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) downgraded the alert level for Mt. Mayon from Level 2, which denotes a moderate level of unrest, to Alert Level 1, which denotes a low level of disturbance.

The alert status of Mayon in the province of Albay was decreased, according to Phivolcs’ Thursday report, as a result of the ongoing decline in its monitored parameters.

According to the Phivolcs bulletin, the monitoring parameters for Mayon Volcano have been steadily declining since the beginning of the year.

The risk of an eruption happening soon has decreased as a result of Mayon’s alert level being lowered.

Moreover, the daily average of volcanic earthquakes has decreased from zero to one. The usual explanation for volcanic earthquakes is rock splitting and sporadic rockfall beneath the structure.

The emission of sulfur dioxide (SO2), which was measured at 312 tonnes per day, is also significantly less than the background rate of 500 tonnes per day.

Only with the use of a telescope has the crater glow caused by superheated gas from the summit vent been visible.

The message stated that the constant summit conditions were compatible with there being no magma re-supply to the lower layers of the structure.

The 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is still off-limits to the general population because of the constant threat of rockfall, avalanches, ash puffs, and unexpected steam-driven or phreatic eruptions at the summit area.

Also, Phivolcs warned those who live near active river channels and valleys to be cautious of lahars and sediment-filled stream flows in the event of prolonged or severe rain brought on by the arrival of the rainy season.
