ACG’s new leader promises a tougher crackdown on cybercrime.
Brig. Gen. Sidney Hernia, the newly appointed director of the Philippine National Police’s Anti Cybercrime Group (ACG), promised a more aggressive campaign against cyber criminals and their activities.
The PNP’s fourteenth director, Hernia, emphasized the importance of creating a culture where cybersecurity is prioritized at all levels.
“Everyone has responsibility for protecting cyberspace as the globe becomes more connected. In his message delivered during the turnover ceremony, which was presided over by Lt. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia, Deputy Chief PNP for Administration in Camp Crame on Monday, Hernia urged everyone to give the implementation of cyber-resiliency measures the utmost priority in order to improve the organization’s capabilities and capacities in addressing cybercrime.
Hernia was of the opinion that in order for a police commissioned officer to develop into a fully-fledged leader, he must leave his comfort zone and look for a home in another place where he will have the chance to refine his leadership potential and polish his talents.
“I know this will be a hard call to my leadership, but I sincerely accept it,” said Hernia, who was a part of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Tanglaw Diwa Class of 1992 where he graduated as the Class Magna Cum Laude.
Several of Hernia’s classmates, the ACG Command Group, division chiefs, and district team leaders were there, and the various regional chiefs watched the occasion electronically.
Brigadier General Joel Doria, who is currently in charge of the Police Regional Office-Mimaropa, and Hernia exchanged positions.
Hernia received praise from Doria, who also wished him luck as he took on the job of continuing the fight against all types of cybercrime.
