As of March 29, there were 110 instances of HFMD in Roxas Town, which is in northern Palawan, the Municipal Health Office reported on Thursday.

Dr. Leo Salvino, the municipal health officer, stated in an interview that cases of HFMD, which were initially observed in February, unexpectedly rose this month and are still increasing.

In fact, I was able to verify two more cases today (Thursday), and private clinics have begun to report, he said. “There are still new cases coming out,” he added.

Salvino claimed that the first person to have the virus checked was a student from Barangay Tinitian who is enrolled in Langogan here.

Since the cases truly began in Manila, he was not singled out, the doctor explained. “Perhaps someone came in who we do not know is infected,” he added.

Salvino said that he had instructed parents to segregate sick children and sanitize their homes.

He claimed that they had given schools the go-ahead to clean classrooms.

At the settlements of New Barbacan, Magara, San Jose, and Nicanor Zabala, we carried out disinfection last Wednesday using disinfectants mixed with water. Since the disinfection was really done on a Wednesday last week, it will actually take five days to take effect—three days, plus Saturday and Sunday.

Ma. Angela Sabando, a member of the Palawan board, made the initial announcement on Tuesday that there were 96 instances of HFMD in Roxas.

She claimed that according to a report, Barangay Magara had the most cases, 54, followed by Barangay Nicanor Zabala with 22, San Jose, and Barangay IV, each with five.
