The provincial administration in this country has prohibited the importation into the province of live pigs, pork products, and byproducts from ASF-affected regions.

Even though there have been no ASF instances in the province since the year’s beginning, Governor Daniel R. Fernando signed an executive order (EO) on Wednesday.

According to Fernando, action is being taken to ensure that the province’s efforts to repopulate the number of pigs will not be harmed.

Since there are still cases of ASF in other provinces, particularly in the Visayas, and an increasing number of hog traders are bringing pigs into our province, we must regulate this to guarantee that no ASF-positive pigs are brought into our province.

The National Task Force for the Prevention of ASF and other government organizations have declared areas impacted by ASF, and the province will execute a blanket ban on live hogs, carcasses, cooked foods, and processed meats originating from those areas.

Before being permitted to enter the province, shipments coming from the pink to green zones, as well as those from the buffer, protected, or free zones, must first request a letter of acceptance from the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), which must be accompanied by an ASF negative test result that is not more than two weeks old as of the time of shipment.

In a similar vein, the PVO regularly monitors backyard farmers from various cities and municipalities while commercial farms undergo testing and report their findings to the PVO.

Additionally, the PVO provided farmers from all municipalities with a biosecurity lecture and disinfectants to aid in their prevention of ASF.
