MIAA: Only 2% of new terminal assignments were “misrouted”

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said on Wednesday that only 2% of passengers were misrouted on April 16, which was the first day of implementation of the second phase of the schedule and terminal assignment reduction program.

Jetstar Japan, Jetstar Asia, Scoot, China Southern Airlines, and Starlux Airlines flights have been moved from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Flights operated by Philippine Airlines (PAL) to and from Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Phnom Penh now depart from Terminal 1 instead of Terminal 2.

Of the 3,311 passengers, 71, or 2%, according to the MIAA, were misrouted. From the 22 aircraft that were impacted by the program’s introduction last Sunday, nobody was offloaded.

“We are happy with how smoothly these carriers made the change. This is the end product of months of coordination with the airlines and ground handlers, according to MIAA General Manager Cesar Chiong.

According to the MIAA, customers can take a free shuttle service between NAIA Terminals, and ground handlers are positioned at the departure gates to help them.

According to Chiong, the scheme intends to make Terminal 2 an entirely domestic facility and increase the capacity of all NAIA terminals.

AirAsia Philippines and Royal Air will move their domestic operations to Terminal 2 on July 1.

Cebu Pacific and CebGo’s flights will continue to operate out of Terminals 3 and 4 in the meantime due to the sheer volume of their operations.

The scheme also includes the June 1 move of Jeju Air, Ethiopian Airlines, Thai Airways, and Gulf Air to Terminal 3.

Starting on June 16, all of the remaining PAL international flights will run to and from Terminal 1.
