On Saturday, Dumaguete will host Sto. Nino de Cebu.

This weekend, as part of the celebration of the “Kaplag,” or the discovery of the original icon in Cebu some 450 years ago, the pilgrim image of the Sto. Nino de Cebu will visit the Diocese of Dumaguete.

On Saturday, May 6, the pilgrimage statue of the Child Jesus will arrive here and remain until May 9. In the diocese, it will be distributed to various parishes, according to Fr. Hendrix Alar, the assistant coordinator of the religious activity.

The liturgy will be officiated by Dumaguete Bishop Julito Cortes as the pilgrim image arrives at the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria. After that, prayer vigils will be held before the Sto. Nino image visits the other parishes, according to Alar.

Alar claims that the Sto. Nino pilgrim image’s journey to this location was a part of the “Kaplag” celebration in Cebu late last month because it is customary for it to go to various dioceses to encourage the enlargement of the Catholic faith.

The Sto. Nino pilgrim statue last traveled to the Diocese of Dumaguete in 2015.
