POPCOM and Albay Town sign a contract to localize family planning initiatives.
In order to localize and institutionalize population management and development initiatives, particularly those focusing on family planning and the prevention of unintended pregnancies, the local government of Camalig and the Commission on Population (POPCOM) signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday.
Tim Florece, head of the Camalig public information office, stated in an interview on Thursday that the alliance is anticipated to indicate better execution of healthcare-related initiatives and policies.
According to Florece, “Given Camalig’s steadily growing population, the local government deems it crucial to further strengthen the promotion of public health in collaboration with numerous local agencies like POPCOM in order to ensure that every family has access to necessary health services and information.”
According to information provided by the Municipal Health Office (MHO), 49 teenage pregnancies occurred in 2022, and as of January 2023, eight cases had already been reported.
He said, “There will be a series of training, workshop, seminars, and information, education, and communication campaigns (IEC) for family planning, maternal and child health, responsible parenthood, and teen pregnancy awareness.”
POPCOM provided the MHO with health-related panels to use in age-appropriate IEC campaigns aimed at tackling the problems faced by the town’s most vulnerable groups.
With the MOA, activities that might help prevent early and recurring pregnancies among young people could be launched in the municipality, according to Florece.
