After the World Health Organization (WHO) ended the global emergency status for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Friday, the Department of Health (DOH) and the Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) will meet to review and discuss existing policies and other guidelines.

The WHO declaration “is an acknowledgment of our effective and collaborative Covid-19 response and concerted efforts to fully recover and reopen our economy,” according to a statement issued by the health department on Friday night.

“The DOH will convene the members of the (IATF-EID) to discuss and reassess policies and other guidelines affected by the declaration,” the statement added, failing to provide a specific date.

The health organization promised the populace that all circumstances affecting its next course of action by the WHO declaration will be taken into account and debated for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s approval.

Since January 3, 2020, the DOH has recorded 4,092,158 confirmed cases of Covid-19, resulting in 66,444 fatalities nationwide. By March 20, 2023, more than 78.4 million people had received their vaccinations.

Over 23.8 million people have had their first booster shot, and nearly 4.4 million have received their second.

The declaration of the end of the emergency indicates that Covid-19 is no longer a hazard to public health worldwide, according to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Since January 30, 2020, Covid-19 has been under “public health emergency of international concern” status, which is the highest level of notice.
