As a result of Super Typhoon Karding, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is trying to assist micro businesses.

About 24 micro, small, and medium-sized firms (MSMEs) were initially listed to get government support, according to Dr. Richard Simangan, provincial director of DTI in Nueva Ecija, who spoke on Thursday.

Those in need of assistance, according to Simangan, include the Gapan City merchants whose booths were demolished and the juice producers whose calamansi trees were uprooted by the storm.

At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, he pointed out, DTI had also provided many people with the company beginning kits worth millions of pesos.

Meanwhile, the agency has frozen the prices of several essential commodities by the province government’s decision to declare a state of calamity in Nueva Ecija due to the extreme destruction brought on by “Karding.”

The head of the DTI’s consumer protection section in Nueva Ecija, Romeo Eusebio Faronilo, stated that the city’s public markets and supermarkets had an adequate supply of “basic requirements and prime goods” based on the monitoring.

According to a report from the Nueva Ecija League of Market Administrators, Inc. (NELMA) and Nueva Ecija Consumer Affairs Advocacy Association, all public markets in the province are still open and operating despite damage to several facilities.
