Pangasinan and a private company work together on an expressway project.
For the proposed Pangasinan Link Expressway Project, the provincial government of Pangasinan will form a joint venture with San Miguel Holdings Corporation.
After the provincial government received the company’s unsolicited joint venture proposal in March, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved Governor Ramon Guico III to sign the agreement during its regular session on Monday.
In a recent interview, Vice Governor Mark Ronald Lambino stated that the agreement would improve the Ilocos Region’s road system, hasten the creation of new growth centers and enterprises, and stimulate economic growth in the province.
From Binalonan town to Lingayen town, a 42-kilometer project that would have passed through eight towns in Central Pangasinan was proposed, according to Lambino.
According to him, the project will reduce the 90-minute drive to Lingayen town from the Tarlac-Pangasinan Expressway to 30 minutes or less.
He continued, “This will also promote economic development along expressway development areas.”
Although the provincial government has already allocated PHP1 billion to purchase land, Lambino claimed the project would only receive funding from one supporter.
“It is the sole proponent whose proposal was submitted. Maliban sa pagtayo ng mga kalsada at pagganda ekonomiya, ang kagandahan sa proyekto, kapag natapos ang kontrata ng proyekto ay magiging pagmamay-ari na ito ng probinsya, he said.
According to the proponent’s schedule, he said the project would start six months after the contract is signed and published.
