EdgePoint Philippines announced on Thursday that the DITO Telecommunity-affiliated first tower is now fully operational and is providing service to the local villages.

The business claimed that the one tower might be able to meet all of the town’s residents’ communication needs.

EdgePoint announced that it already manages 190 other towers in Rizal, even though the newly activated Tanay cell site constitutes the company’s first tower colocation tenancy site agreement with DITO.

The 48-meter tower was rendered “ready for installation” within two weeks of its acquisition, according to the Malaysian telecoms infrastructure company with its headquarters in Singapore.

EdgePoint Infrastructure’s CEO, Suresh Sidhu, stated that his organization is committed to making its tower network accessible to all operators for expedited deployment.

“We are committed to ensuring the ready availability of accessible and reliable wireless telecommunications infrastructure to support all mobile network operators and Internet service providers in the Philippines, thereby improving service quality to their customers,” Sidhu continued.

EdgePoint wrote to the Philippine News Agency via email to say that it is “working with operators, including DITO, to identify more colocation opportunities to speed up deployment time.”

The business also revealed that it currently manages 2,557 active cell towers in the nation and plans to increase that number to 3,000 by year’s end.

The “Common Tower Policy” of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), which permits independent infrastructure businesses to lease space on their towers to multiple telcos on a non-exclusive basis, is what allowed EdgePoint to operate.

The DICT stated in a circular at the time of its approval in 2020 that its policy aimed to “ensure universal access to quality, affordable, reliable, and secure ICT services.”
