DTI offers online marketing training to 100 Cebu technopreneurs.

Through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), over 100 micro, small, and medium-sized business owners in Cebu are now armed with e-commerce strategies to grow their companies using information technology.

According to Rose Mae Quianola, provincial director of DTI-Cebu, they sponsored a two-day workshop for technopreneurs on May 10 and 11, aiming to maximize the use of technology in promoting businesses to the general public.

The learning caravan, known as “Pilipinas: Aahon at Babangon,” she said, provided social media marketing and mobile photography classes throughout the Visayas and in Luzon and Mindanao.

She said that Shopee Philippines, the local governments of Cebu and Lapu-Lapu, and the Philippine Long Distance Telephone-Smart Communications all backed the project.

According to Quianola, “Our MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises) make up the majority of the nation’s businesses today, and the (DTI) is in the forefront of ensuring that they are capacitated in their digital transformation, thereby helping them become more resilient and sustainable.”

The budding technopreneurs were taught the fundamentals of mobile photography for online platforms by lecturers from PLDT-Smart and Shopee, exposing them to the subtleties of the e-commerce sector.

A seller from Cebu who discussed how she promoted her wearable and home dรฉcor products, Stitches and Yarns, provided the trainees with first-hand knowledge of clever internet promotions.

Some learning caravan participants were sole entrepreneurs who had not yet considered using social media to market their goods and services.
