DBM pledges to work toward Marawi recovery

As the country observes the Marawi Week of Peace, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) reaffirmed its dedication on Wednesday to strengthen the Muslim community, particularly in the reconstruction of Marawi City.

Amenah Pangandaman, secretary of the DBM and a southern-born Maranao, said that Marawi’s rehabilitation and recovery have “always been a project that is close to my heart.”

Pangandaman stated, “I join the entire Filipino country in the observance of the Marawi Week of Peace from May 17 to 23, 2023, on behalf of the men and women of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

“I feel such satisfaction and pride witnessing Marawi rise again six years after the siege since I am a Maranao by heart and blood. She continued, it warms my heart to see my fellow Maranaos overcome that terrible past with such bravery and fortitude.

She stated that the Task Force Bangon Marawi will dedicate the Raya Madaya II Barangay Hall Complex, the Network Operation Center Building, the Digital Transformation Center, and other significant landmarks. Each of the three school buildings will have 20 classrooms.

According to her, the 500 finished permanent shelters that will be handed over will also be a “huge help” to many displaced families.

She said that to recompense displaced people and those who lost private properties during the Marawi siege in 2017, the Marcos administration has allotted a total of PHP1 billion.

In fact, there is still a ton of work tremendous be done. She added that we must all work together to define the future to achieve sustainable peace and long-term prosperity. “But let this milestone serve as a reminder to all of us to shape a future moving forward.

The Marawi Week of Peace was established in 2018 with the slogan “Peace Starts With Us: Give, Work, and Share” to build social harmony among stakeholders by delivering socioeconomic help, encouraging spiritual growth, and maintaining involvement.

The week-long peace event represents both the government’s ongoing commitment to Marawi’s rehabilitation through a national approach and the collaboration of the government with local and international development partners for Marawi to become a peaceful and wealthy city.
