To make driving easier and safer, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finished asphalt topping projects along the main thoroughfares in the province of Nueva Ecija.

DPWH Regional Director Roseller Tolentino announced on Wednesday that the 2.22 kilometers of Jose Abad Santos Avenue (JASA) sections in Barangay San Nicolas in Gapan City and Barangay Poblacion to Barangay Malapit in San Isidro town have been upgraded by the DPWH Nueva Ecija Second District Engineering Office (DEO).

Tolentino said the completed road projects along JASA, which cost PHP69.25 million, are a part of the DPWH asset preservation and preventive maintenance program, which aims to halt road deterioration and address urgent repairs to prevent traffic discomfort.

JASA, often called the Gapan-San Fernando-Olongapo Road, connects the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and Zambales.

He also stated that the DPWH is expediting other road maintenance projects in Nueva Ecija.

Repairs for the 1.7 kilometers Daang Maharlika section between Barangay Sto. Cristo Norte and Barangay Bayanihan in Gapan City and the 1.9 kilometers JASA section between Barangay San Roque and Barangay Sto. Cristo in San Isidro cost PHP90.39 million and PHP57.59 million, respectively.

The projects are funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2023.

The Nueva Ecija-Aurora road’s Cabu Detour Road in Cabanatuan City, according to the DPWH, would be completely restricted to heavy trucks beginning on Friday.

The DPWH advised that the closure was required due to the ongoing restoration and reblocking of the Nueva Ecija-Aurora road stretch in Manacnac, Palayan City.

As a result, it is advised that all heavy vehicles traveling to Palayan City, Bongabon, Gabaldon, and Dingalan in the province of Aurora use the Bongabon-Rizal Road, the Palayan-Natividad Road, and the Laur-Fort Magsaysay Road as detours.
