🚦 PH to Open 15 More Tourist Rest Areas, Says DOT Chief 🏞️

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco announced on Monday that 15 additional Tourist Rest Areas (TRAs) will be established in the Philippines.

Frasco led the inauguration and turnover of the country’s first-ever TRA in the sugarcane town of Medellin in Cebu province’s northern corridor.

These 15 new TRAs will join the initial roster of 10 TRAs strategically located in areas with high tourist concentration.

Accompanied by her mother, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, and other officials, the DOT chief emphasized that the TRAs aim to provide comfort and convenience to tourists exploring the northern destinations of the province.

“Visitors on a road trip traversing the town of Medellin can now enjoy the facility with Filipino-inspired interior and furniture for free,” Frasco stated.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the facility took place in October of last year, emphasizing the availability of hygienic facilities for tourists visiting various destinations.

The TRA features a coffee shop, a pasalubong and souvenir shop, a tourist information desk, and a charging station for mobile phones and laptops.

As part of her signature initiatives to enhance the overall tourist experience and DOT’s goal of providing comfort and convenience, Frasco emphasized the significance of establishing rest areas for visitors.

“Establishing the Tourist Rest Area fulfills DOT’s objectives in improving the overall tourist experience. It ensures that our tourists feel comfortable on their journey across the country,” Frasco explained.

Governor Garcia commended the DOT and local government units (LGUs) ‘s collaborative effort to promote tourism initiatives through the TRA.

Garcia also expressed that the capitol would match the number of TRAs set up by the DOT in Cebu, with the first one to be constructed in Bogo City.

Last year, the tourism agency broke ground for four TRAs in Cebu, with the other three located in Carmen, Carcar City, and Moalboal.
