Soccsksargen wants to be included in the Balik Probinsya pilot regions
The RDC of Soccksargen (Region 12) is advocating for the region to be included in the pilot regions for housing and other assistance programs under the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-Asa (BP2) program.
The council’s Special BP2 Committee, led by Technical Education and Skill Development Authority Director General, Secretary Isidro Lapea, the Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security of Region 12, submitted the proposal to the National Housing Authority (NHA).
Lapea said in a statement on Wednesday that they particularly requested that the agency consider adding at least one province in the area as one of the BP2 program’s trial locations this year.
According to a report from the National Housing Authority, a total of 2,484 households from throughout the area have requested for assistance under the program as of June 29.
With 960 applications, South Cotabato was the most popular, followed by North Cotabato (844), Sultan Kudarat (400), and Sarangani (280).
“The overall number of BP2 participants in other pilot provinces for 2021 was greater than the applicants from North and South Cotabato,” Lapea added.
Isabela, Camarines Sur, Leyte, Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao Del Norte, and Davao del Norte are the BP2 pilot provinces.
NHA is in charge of BP2’s national secretariat, which assists low-income households that want to leave Metro Manila, the National Capital Region, and other densely populated areas and return or migrate to other provinces.
It may be the result of a deliberate choice to return to the provinces, the loss of a job or other source of income, the present living conditions being hazardous, and exposure to health and safety concerns, as well as other environmental hazards.
The government supports and incentivizes returning families in the areas of transportation, family, livelihood, housing, sustenance, and education via the program.
In preparation for the program’s full implementation in the region, the Region 12 Special BP2 Committee is presently drafting guidelines, reports, and statistics.
