Once the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) epidemic is ended, Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Koshikawa Kazuhiko expects a return of Japanese visitors to Cebu and vice versa.

During a recent visit to Cebu, the envoy stated his hope.

Koshikawa also stated his desire to strengthen Cebu-Japan bilateral ties in a statement issued by the Cebu province administration on Monday, October 11, 2021.

“You have a lovely natural setting, as well as Cebuano hospitality and security.” It’s a safe place to live. Many Japanese will return here once the epidemic is gone,” the envoy said.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia discussed the idea of establishing a tourist bubble between Cebu and Japan once the pandemic situation normalizes to promote tourism exchange at Koshikawa’s meeting with her on Friday.

Apart from tourism, he believes that more Japanese students would return to Cebu to learn English as a Second Language (ESL). Cebu has been drawing international students from Asian nations such as Japan, Korea, and China as an ESL center in the country.

Garcia encouraged the Japanese delegation to view Cebu’s natural beauty and tour the island.

Cebu has always been a popular vacation spot for Japanese visitors.

Pre-pandemic, Japan and South Korea were two of the most popular tourist destinations in Cebu.
