More localized ROF Omicron instances are detected by DOH.

The Department of Health (DOH) announced on Thursday that the 48 samples sequenced last January 2 revealed 29 new cases of the Omicron strain.

The DOH also reported 18 instances positive for the Delta variant, while one had no lineage ascribed, in a joint statement with the University of the Philippines – Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC) and the University of the Philippines – National Institutes of Health (UP-NIH).

The newest sequencing run included samples from 19 returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) and 29 local individuals from areas with case clusters, according to the agencies.

The 29 Omicron variant cases include 10 ROFs and 19 local cases in the National Capital Region (NCR), increasing the overall number of confirmed Omicron variant cases to 43, according to the DOH.

Fourteen of the 19 local cases are still open, while three have been closed. The outcomes of the two cases are still being confirmed.

The Department of Health is checking the test findings and health status of all passengers on these flights to see if there are any further confirmed instances or travelers who developed symptoms after arriving.

Eight of the 18 new Delta variant examples were ROFs. NCR was also the indicated address for the ten local cases.

The overall number of confirmed Delta variant instances now stands at 8,497.

The Department of Health urged all eligible individuals, particularly senior citizens, people with comorbidities, and children, to get vaccinated and boosted as soon as possible.

“Vaccines are still our best defense, and they’ve been shown to be safe, effective, and inexpensive.” Let’s not be carriers of the virus and stop it from spreading further, because more transmission means more mutations,” it said.

It also advised the public to segregate quickly and perform the appropriate tests at the appropriate time when symptoms first appear.
