Another 616 people recover from Covid-19, resulting in a total of 17,220 new infections.
On Thursday, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 17,220 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections.
According to the current Covid-19 update, this brings the total number of active cases to 56,561.
The 10,775 new infections on Thursday represent an almost 60% increase over the 10,775 new cases on Wednesday.
There are 49,988 mild cases, 2,954 intermediate cases, 1,837 asymptomatic cases, 312 critical cases, and 1,470 severe cases among the active cases.
“Of the 17,220 cases recorded today, 17,104 (99 percent) happened in the last 14 days – December 24 to January 6, 2022,” according to the Department of Health.
Meanwhile, 616 new cases were recovered, bringing the overall number of recovered cases to 2,780,613, accounting for 96.3 percent of the total 2,888,917 infections since the pandemic began in March 2020.
The National Capital Region (NCR) had 11,563 new infections in the last two weeks, accounting for 68 percent of all new infections; Calabarzon had 3,165 new infections, accounting for 19 percent; and Central Luzon had 1,126 new infections, accounting for 7 percent.
With 81 new deaths, the death toll has risen to 51,743, accounting for 1.79 percent of all cases.
“As a result of the late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya, 6 deaths occurred in January 2022 (7 percent), 6 deaths occurred in December 2021 (7 percent), 8 deaths occurred in November 2021 (10 percent), 19 deaths occurred in October 2021 (23 percent), 24 deaths occurred in September 2021 (30 percent), 12 deaths occurred in August 2021 (15 percent), 3 deaths occurred in July 2021 (4 percent), 2 deaths occurred in June 2021 (2 percent), and 1 death occurred in May 2021
COVIDKaya is a web-based tool that allows healthcare professionals to collect and share information regarding Covid-19 patients.
According to the company’s statistics from January 3, around 31.7 percent of the 44,643 people who were tested for Covid-19 were positive.
“A total of 48 duplicate cases were removed from the total case count, with 46 being recoveries. In addition, 66 instances were discovered to have tested negative and were removed from the total case count as recoveries, according to the DOH.
Meanwhile, after validation, 66 cases formerly categorized as recoveries were reclassified as fatalities.
The Covid-19 Document Repository System did not accept data from any of the laboratories that were open on January 4 and 11.
Based on statistics from the previous 14 days, the 11 laboratories provide 2.8 percent of samples analyzed and 4.5 percent of positive persons, according to the DOH.
Patients with Covid-19 have used 31% of 3,500 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 34% of 19,200 isolation beds, 27% of 12,500 ward beds, and 14% of 2,900 ventilators nationwide to date.
In the meantime, the NCR is home to 43% of 1,200 ICU beds, 42% of 4,700 isolation beds, 50% of 4,000 ward beds, and 18% of 1,000 ventilators dedicated to Covid-19 patients.
