The government is increasing bed capacity and testing in response to an increase in infection rates.
In the aftermath of record-high daily Covid-19 infections, the national government will increase hospital bed capacity, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing, and vaccination.
The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Sub-Technical Working Group (sTWG) on Data Analytics proposed increasing bed capacity in the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjacent areas, according to Acting Presidential Spokesperson Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles (NCR Plus).
NCR Plus is made up of the NCR plus the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan, and Rizal, all of which are close by.
The IATF-sTWG also advised cooperating with key stakeholders to include monitoring of the capacity of Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facilities (TTMFs) in its measurement of health system capacity, according to him.
The task group recommended that patients in need of care be referred immediately and appropriately, as well as reassessing the capacity of TTMFs, boosting TTMF capacity when needed, and removing any referral quotas from hospitals, according to Nograles.
He stated that the Field Implementation and Coordination Team (FICT) of the Department of Health (DOH) and the National Task Force (NTF) Health Facilities Sub-Cluster have been directed to communicate with NCR hospitals as soon as possible to determine how the Covid-19 bed capacity is being allocated.
He stated that the NTF Health Facilities Sub-Cluster and the DOH Knowledge Management and Information Technology Service were given orders to develop telehealth and telemedicine capabilities outside of the NCR.
It was suggested that the One Hospital Command Center be established to enable as near to real-time updating of health system capacity as possible, depending on functional bed capacity and the availability of health care staff.
Areas for functional triage
According to Nograles, the IATF sTWG on Data Analytics has entrusted the Community Response Cluster and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) with ensuring that all local government units have Emergency Operations Centers with functional triage areas (LGUs).
These triage areas will be in charge of patient navigation, ensuring that only those who require hospitalization are transported to the appropriate facilities.
They must also guarantee that persons undergoing home isolation or quarantine are monitored by Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams and that access to testing, treatment, and facility referral is provided, particularly for the elderly, those with comorbidities, and those from vulnerable groups.
They’ve also been told to step up active case finding in NCR Plus areas, as well as step-up active case finding and contact tracing strictly up to the third generation in all Alert Level 2 areas.
Increase the number of people who are tested for Covid-19 and the number of people who are vac
The IATF sTWG on Data Analytics encouraged the Covid-19 Laboratory Network to improve RT-PCR testing capacity in NCR Plus by guaranteeing that laboratories are open seven days a week, according to Nograles.
Senior citizens, people with comorbidities, and those on the A2 and A3 priority lists should be prioritized, according to the IATF sTWG.
It was suggested that applications for new RT-PCR laboratories’ Licenses to Operate be expedited.
The IATF sTWG was also pressed to furnish commodities for swabbing and testing as soon as possible.
The National Vaccination Operations Center was also told to boost vaccination rates “as soon as possible” outside of the NCR.
In the Philippines, almost 50 million people have been properly vaccinated against Covid-19.
Isolate
Meanwhile, Nograles advised symptomatic Covid-190 patients to isolate as soon as possible in order to assist slow the development of Covid-19 infections.
Those with mild or asymptomatic Covid-19, on the other hand, may isolate themselves in their own homes.
LGUs, on the other hand, should be able to provide services like telemedicine and quick referral so that people who require additional treatment can be assessed and treated effectively, according to him.
The Department of Health recorded 28,707 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, the most daily cases since the epidemic began, increasing the total number of cases in the country to 2,965,447.
