QC adds 100K antigen kits to Covid-19 testing.

To combat the spread of the coronavirus epidemic in 2019, the Quezon City government purchased 100,000 quick antigen test kits (Covid-19).

Dr. Rolando Cruz, the chief of the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU), stated Friday that the local government is working with the Philippine Red Cross to provide free fast antigen testing in communities on a daily basis.

There are 17 community-based testing facilities as of Wednesday.

A swab is used to collect a sample of mucus from the back of the throat or nose for an antigen test for SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2).

To break down the mucus and release the virus, the swab is dipped into a liquid.

“(The) CESU-initiated testing sites have been open since last year, delivering free testing to largely symptomatic, close contacts, and people who need to be hospitalized as part of the process.” In a statement, he added that each testing station is equipped with swab booths and can accommodate between 100 and 200 people every day.

The CESU is also putting in place the Kyusi-Industriya I.W.A.S. (Industry-Wide Active Surveillance) sa Covid-19, which provides staff with free routine swab testing.

The CESU will test around 1,500 personnel from government and commercial companies this month, including the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Strengthening the CESU’s testing capacity, according to Mayor Joy Belmonte, will help the municipal government to detect instances faster, prevent the virus from spreading, and effectively respond to those who require emergency medical attention or isolation.

The city had 25,770 current Covid-19 infections as of Friday.

“It’s critical to establish the virus’s existence as soon as possible, especially considering the recent increase in cases.” “We must think about our priority sectors, such as older citizens and those with comorbidities, who rely on quick test results to receive timely and appropriate medical care,” Belmonte added in a separate statement.
